چکیده

Probing the cortic ospinal tract integrity by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) could help to understand neurophysiological correlations of multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms. Therefore, study objective was, first, investigate TMS measures (resting motor threshold-RMT, evoked potential (MEP) latency, and amplitude) corticospinal in people with relapsing-remitting MS (pwMS). Then, examined conformity clinical disease-related (Expanded Disability Status Scale—EDSS) resonance imaging (MRI) results (lesion count) pwMS. The e-field navigated TMS, MRI, EDSS data were collected 23 pwMS compared non-clinical samples. show that differed from samples MEP latency for upper lower extremity muscles. Also, altered (prolonged or absent response) had higher EDSS, general pyramidal, functional scores than normal finding. Furthermore, RMT intensity muscles was predictive pyramidal scores. TMS/MEP findings classified as same 70–83% cases similar MRI results, corresponding 57–65% cases. PwMS total number lesions brain cervical tract. provides preliminary on correspondence evaluation score MS.

Pyramidal tract mapping by diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging in multiple sclerosis: improving correlations with disability.

BACKGROUND Current magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) outcome measures such as T2 lesion load correlate poorly with disability in multiple sclerosis. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the brain can provide unique information regarding the orientation and integrity of white matter tracts in vivo. OBJECTIVE To use this information to map the pyramidal tracts of patients with multiple sclerosis, i...

Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging analysis of the corticospinal tract in multiple sclerosis

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE Muscle weakness is an important feature of multiple sclerosis and is responsible for much of the disability associated with that condition. Here, we describe the quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) attributes of the major intracerebral motor pathway--the corticospinal tract--in multiple sclerosis. To do so, we develop an intuitive method for creating and displaying ...

Multiple Sclerosis Lesions Segmentation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging using Ensemble Support Vector Machine (ESVM)

Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) syndrome is a type of Immune-Mediated disorder in the central nervous system (CNS) which destroys myelin sheaths, and results in plaque (lesion) formation in the brain. From the clinical point of view, investigating and monitoring information such as position, volume, number, and changes of these plaques are integral parts of the controlling process this dise...

Transcranial magnetic stimulation: role in the evaluation of disability in multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND In patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has shown significant prolongation of central motor conduction time (CMCT). Abnormal CMCT may reflect sub-clinical involvement of motor pathways and correlate with clinical motor disability. OBJECTIVE To determine the diagnostic yield of TMS in MS and the possible correlation of TMS abnormalities with...
